"Questions Often Asked of and About Charlie Fass (Mister Illusion)"
QUESTION: How long have you been doing magic?
ANSWER: Ever since I received a magic set at Christmas when I was 8 years old. It was a hobby for many years, then became a professional pursuit over the last sixteen years.
QUESTION: What kind of magic do you do?
ANSWER: We perform comedy magic. There is just not enough laughter in today's world. Nothing "off color", but we believe in entertainment through laughter.
QUESTION: Will you tell us how you do it?
ANSWER: No.
QUESTION: Do you offer magic lessons?
ANSWER: Now that is how I will tell you how I do it. We have very affordable programs by the hour, by the day, or by the week, or even by the month depending upon your needs and requirements. We can provide all the materials and props required including a magic book written for the age group being taught. Contact us for details.
QUESTION: Do you only perform for children?
ANSWER: We have a variety of shows available for children, teenagers, adults, or senior citizens. Each age group is different, and requires different things for entertainment. We even have programs designed for mixed-age audiences.
QUESTION: What do you charge for a show?
ANSWER: Our rates are based on the length of the show, the complexity of the show, and location of the show. Our rates are very competitive. Give us a call for a no obligation personalized quotation.
QUESTION: What kind of tricks do you do?
ANSWER: We only perform those effects which are audience pleasers. If something we do satisfies the audience, we keep it in the act. If not, we toss it--even if Mister Illusion personally likes it. Bottom line is always entertainment.
QUESTION: Can I call you on your cell phone?
ANSWER: Yes you may if you like. I try to keep my cell phone turned on and with me most of the time except for when we are performing. Call 916-218-2828.
QUESTION: What is the music you play during your performance? Can I purchase the music?
ANSWER: The music we use is written especially for magic. We have some music written for adult and/or mixed audiences and music written for young children. The music for adult and mixed audiences was created by Richard Allen of Valley Village, California. The music for children audiences was created by Arthur Stead. You may have seen him on Good Morning America, HBO, or VH1. He has composed music for mega-stars michael Bolton, Cyndi Lauper, Cher, Aerosmith, Peter Frampton, Starship, Van Halen, Ace Frehley, and Shania Twain. Arthur's film scoring credits include The Muppets, Guiding Light, America's Most Wanted, several award-winning PBS documentaries, and the title track to Steven Spielberg's feature film "The Goonies." His music can also be heard on countless national TV commercials. We feel honored to be able to feature music 2003 by Arthur Stead "Make it Magic". If you are interested in purchasing a copy of this music, we can provide that for you.
QUESTION: Can you levitate items during your performances?
ANSWER: Yes, we have several options in this category. During many of our performances in people's homes, in public places, and even on the stage we are able to levitate a borrowed item like a one dollar bill. We have even levitated a $100 bill! There is no extra charge for us to do this, and it can be done in most venues. We also do a levitation known as the Harbin chair suspension for an additional fee. This is very effective an makes for a great photo opportunity. This can be done indoors, outdoors, in your home, in a public facility, or on a stage. It can be done close up and surrounded. We also can perform a complete suspension levitation which allows for complete removal of all support props for a clear view underneath the subject. When you book your show, ask about rates for these effects.
QUESTION: If we book you for a one hour show this week, then book you for a one hour show next week, will the shows be identical?
ANSWER: Assuming that the age of audience stays the same, the shows can be completely different if you wish. We have enough material and props at our disposal to provide completely different shows time after time if need be. Good question!
QUESTION: Is it Mr. Illusion or Mister Illusion?
ANSWER: We prefer spelling out the word mister so that it appears as Mister Illusion instead of Mr. Illusion. Perhaps the main reason we do this is because of the graphic designer who designed our Mister Illusion logo many years ago. In the logo the word mister is spelled out and not abbreviated. That designer must have liked the mister spelled out instead of the short version of Mr. In any case, it just kind of stuck and all our advertising and materials have the word spelled out. Sometimes people search for us on the Internet and do not find us due to the fact that they are looking for Mr. Illusion and do not think to spell the name out. We hope they find us eventually.
